  • Over the past several years, there have been major changes in the contract security industry. For years there was a strong group of local and regional contract security companies that provided a quality product, strong customer service, organic growth and immediate access to ownership. As a result of acquisitions those quality regional and local contract security companies were absorbed by national and foreign companies. Metropolitan Atlanta is a great example. As one of the largest users of contract security services in the United States, Atlanta has lost the key premier contract security providers in this process.

    The quality of service begins at the local level with strong local management that know their customers, employees and market. Retention of good knowledgeable managers is paramount to success. Your managers must also be allowed to have a life outside of work. This promotes a strong moral in the workplace that is critical to servicing the clients and employees of the security company. That philosophy seems to be nonexistent with the new mega security contract companies today. Additionally with the acquisitions and mergers management is eliminated to make numbers. You see the local management workload increase two to five times with little or no pay increases. Clients who saw and met with their local security managers on a regular basis now ask why they never see or hear from a manager. This has resulted in a high turnover of the local management and the security staff which leads to instability and service issues for the client.
